The Story

Meet Justine

Her story is one of resilience and determination. Now she wants to give back.

From refugee to role model

Justine Nde is a tailor, designer, survivor, and community builder. Originally from Cameroon, she once ran a sewing workshop that empowered women there — long before Cyprus became her home. Recognised as a refugee in 2022, Justine rebuilt her life through creativity and determination. The Caritas Migrant Centre played a pivotal role in her early months, offering the support and stability she now extends to others through Vymata.

Continuing a local legacy

When a long-standing Cypriot tailor decided to retire, Justine stepped forward to continue the shop’s tradition. Under her guidance — and his mentorship — the business has remained open and deeply rooted in its local community, while evolving into a hub of innovation and inclusion. What began as a tailoring shop is now a movement, where every stitch carries history, memory, and hope.

Justine's vision is a work in progress

“What Caritas did for me,” Justine says, “I want Vymata to do for others. A safe space, a skill, and a future.” Vymata’s achievements in 2025 — from multicultural sewing circles to professional training and international innovation platforms — reflect a philosophy at the heart of Justine’s work: fashion can transform lives.

The Brand

Made by Survivors

Fashion with a heartbeat

Every piece created at Vymata tells a story of resilience. Through the “Made by Survivors” label, our artisans transform garments of personal meaning — once linked to loss, love, or struggle — into unique, wearable art

This is not fast fashion

This is slow, soulful craftsmanship — a conversation between material and memory. Each product is Is handmade with care in Nicosia; uses upcycled or donated materials; carries the signature and story of its maker; and contributes directly to women’s training and empowerment

Made by Survivors

Vymata aims to grow into a recognised ethical fashion brand — rooted in Cyprus, inspired by courage, and connected across borders. We’re developing a training toolkit and certification system that will allow others to replicate our model responsibly under the “Made by Survivors” umbrella.
